Relate recognises that some of our clients will have experienced or will be experiencing domestic abuse, this can be from either a victim's or a perpetrator's perspective. It is our agency's policy to protect victim or survivors and their family by providing safe services for this client group.
Our Approach
We recognise that it is not always safe to counsel clients who have domestic abuse within their relationship. This year we have introduced new services to ensure that the services we offer are safe and appropriate.
Relate Northamptonshire are now able to offer the following support:
For Victims of Current & Historic Domestic Abuse
1-2-1 counselling to support them in keeping safe, or understanding the dynamics of abuse and its impact. For more information, please contact the office on 01604 634400.
We will also be working with some family groups (post abuse situations).
For Perpetrators of Domestic Abuse
We will offer an assessment session for both you and your partner to understand the cycle of abuse and if appropriate, refer you to a specialist programme to support you in acknowledging this behaviour and promoting an opportunity to change your behaviours.
This programme works in partnership with the Probation Service and offers discreet and targeted group work for men who have abused their partners. Through Relate you can voluntarily refer yourself to this programme. This programme is accredited through the Respect association www.respect.uk.net
